Orlando Shakespeare Theater seeks an experienced Lighting Designer for our upcoming production of The Hound of the Baskervilles, adapted from Arthur Conan Doyle’s novel by Steven Canny and John Nicholson.

• Pre-Production: August 25 – September 28, 2025
• First Rehearsal: Tuesday, September 2, 2025
• Tech Week: September 18 – 23, 2025
• Previews: September 24-25, 2025
• Opening Night: Friday, September 26, 2025
• Closing: Sunday, November 2, 2025
• Location: Orlando Shakespeare Theater, Orlando, FL

Position Description

We are seeking a creative and collaborative Lighting Designer to create an atmospheric lighting design that captures the eerie moors of Dartmoor, fog-shrouded landscapes, and Victorian settings of this thrilling mystery. The ideal candidate will work closely with the director and design team to develop a cohesive visual language that enhances the production’s blend of suspense, mystery, and humor.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with the director and design team during pre-production
• Create comprehensive lighting plots, paperwork, and cue sheets
• Attend design meetings, technical rehearsals, and previews
• Oversee the implementation of the lighting design
• Work within the allocated budget
• Ensure all lighting equipment is properly installed and functioning

Qualifications

• Previous professional lighting design experience
• Portfolio demonstrating versatility and artistic vision
• Strong understanding of lighting technology and programming
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills
• Ability to work within deadlines and budget constraints
