Elementary School Experiences
Books Alive!
Bring Alive Your Favorite Book!
RECOMMENDED: K – 5th Grade
During this interactive workshop, Orlando Shakes’ Teaching Artists help your students bring a book to life, be it Charlotte’s Web, Interstellar Cinderella, or any favorite children’s story. Students are introduced to the theater artist roles of director, stage manager, and actor. Through interactive games and theater exercises, students explore the story’s settings, characters, costumes, and props by creating a “snapshot” of story elements using their own bodies as statues. Students are then challenged to create their own “spin-off” story that take the characters from the story to new places.
All elementary workshops align with Florida Standards in Reading, Speaking and Listening, and Theater Arts.

Shakes Alive!
RECOMMENDED: 6th – 12th Grade
During this interactive workshop, Orlando Shakes’ Teaching Artists engage your students in an interactive plot summary of one of William Shakespeare’s plays and learn to paraphrase Shakespearean text, distinguishing between the denotative and connotative meanings of words. Shakes Alive! is also a perfect companion experience to attending a student matinee!
All Middle and High School Workshops align with Florida Standards in Reading, Speaking and Listening, Theater Arts, and Social Studies.

On Stage With Henry V
RECOMMENDED: 6th – 12th Grade

This exciting pre-show workshop prepares your students to experience our production of Shakespeare’s Henry V.

Experience our Shakes Alive! workshop ON-DEMAND using our curated lesson plan, videos, and handouts. In this on demand workshop, students will watch Q&A videos of theatre professionals focusing on Acting, Stage Management / Production Management, Development / Fundraising, Marketing, New Play Development, Artistic Director, Box Office, Managing Director, Lighting Design, Sound Design, Costume Design, Set Design and Props Design. Students will then complete a walk-in-the-shoes activity for each career area.
