Our 30th Season Impact

With Orlando Shakes in partnership with UCF’s 30th Season coming to a close, we celebrate a season full of excitement, wonder, and creativity! To really show how we made an impact this season, we’d like to share some of our fun, creative, and meaningful statistics.

Creative Impact

At Orlando Shakes, our art is at the center of everything we do! Despite funding cuts, our team strived for creative excellence and to bring our patrons the quality they’ve come to expect. The following stats reveal all the little details that made each production possible!

  • For our 2018-2019 season auditions, we saw over 400 local actors and over 350 actors in NYC.
  • Throughout the season we had 365 performances.
  • 52% of our creative team members were women.
  • Our season featured 7 child actors.
  • Our season featured 131 local and 15 out of town artists.
  • The sound department generated 1,490 files (and 16.7 GB of data). This included various edits of music, voiceover recordings, projection content and application files.
  • Our production of Hamlet featured four skulls from the props department.
  • The scene shop used 15 gallons of wood glue.
  • We recycled 80% of our used scenery.
  • We painted the floor of the Margeson Theater 9 times.
  • The costume shop designed and built 29 non-human costumes, including four ghosts, two mermaids, a werewolf, a tiger, a whale, and a harp.

Economic Impact

From our patrons to our staff members, Orlando Shakes has improved the local economy by employing local people, supporting local businesses, and attracting tourism to our area.

  • 49 full-time and part-time staff members
  • 71,716 tickets sold
  • 3,691 subscribers
  • Generated over $1.4 million in local economic activity*
      • Patrons spent an average of $44.41 at local restaurants*
      • On average, ticket buyers spent $91.70 at local businesses when seeing a Signature Series production*
  • We had 64 patrons come from outside the US, including a couple who traveled 8,165 miles from New Zealand.

Community Impact

We are proud to be at the heart of the Central Florida community. Local patrons, volunteers, and performers invest in us, and we give back by enriching the community and offering opportunities to underserved communities. The following stats represent how we’ve made a difference in our community this season.

  • 90% of the actors hired this season were local performers.
  • Volunteers donated 11,100 hours of time to our theater.
  • We performed for 25,107 student field trip attendees.
  • We taught 2,900 students during in-school workshops.
  • 8,354 students experienced live theater in their classroom through a live streamed broadcast of our Children’s Series productions.
