About TYC

The Young Company (TYC) is a diverse group of high school students from Central Florida who receive voice, movement and character training while working on a fully produced (i.e. professional costumes, lights, set & sound designs) play. TYC strives to provide talented young artists a nurturing environment where positive self-expression is encouraged through active involvement in the exploration of classical drama.

TYC is open to students entering 9th grade through graduating seniors. Students selected by audition meet for 4 weeks during summer to rehearse and perform a Shakespeare play under the direction of professional Orlando Shakespeare Theater artists.

History

In 1991, The Young Company was conceived by Dr. Stuart Omans and Judith Rubinger as the primary educational branch of the Orlando Shakespeare Theater in Partnership with UCF.

Servicing local high school youth of economically diverse communities who are predisposed toward the performing arts, The Young Company's staff of professional artists use theater to facilitate the emotional, social, and academic growth of young people.
