The Apprentice Training Program at Orlando Shakespeare Theater offers early career, technical theater personnel, the opportunity to gain professional theater experience.

Our apprentice program graduates gain experience working alongside our resident staff, guest designers, and directors. They also gain contacts, career guidance, and respect for all aspects of theater.

If you want to work with one of the nation's leading Shakespeare Theaters, this apprenticeship is for you!

Orlando Shakespeare Theater accepts applications for seasonal Production Apprentices beginning the first week of March (for the following season) each year.

The apprentices will work directly with Orlando Shakes Staff and other visiting artists and assist in all aspects of production. The qualified candidate will have excellent organizational, problem-solving and communication skills; be a self-starter and work well in a collaborative environment.

Housing is NOT available and you must have your own vehicle. The apprenticeship includes a monthly stipend to defray living expenses.

Positions run mid August through early May. At this time Summer positions are not offered.

ALL APPRENTICESHIPS ARE FULL TIME - 10 MONTH POSITIONS You must be available for the entire season in order to be considered.

We are seeking Apprentices in the following areas:

Costume Apprentice

• Build, maintain, repair, and strike all costumes, wigs and accessories for any production that you are assigned.
• Handle the wardrobe duties for any production that you are assigned.
• Attend all technical rehearsals, rehearsals, calls and/or meetings as required.

Electrics Apprentice

• Assist with the installation, hang, focus, maintenance, and strike of lighting and sound equipment for all productions.
• Work as a Sound Operator or Light Board Operator for any production that you are assigned.
• Attend all technical rehearsals, rehearsals, calls and/or meetings as required.

Scenic Apprentice

• Assist with the building or buying of scenery and properties for all productions.
• Assist with scenic painting of set and prop pieces for all productions.
• Work as backstage crew for any production that you are assigned.
• Attend all technical rehearsals, rehearsals, calls and/or meetings as required.

Stage Management Apprentice

• Pre-production, setup and assisting with the running of rehearsals for any production that you are assigned.
• Working either backstage or as an operator for performances for any production that you are assigned.
• Maintaining stage management paperwork and rehearsal items as necessary.
• Attend all technical rehearsals, rehearsals, calls and/or meetings as required.
