2012 - 2013 SEASON JOB OPENINGS
First Hand
- Orlando Shakespeare Theater, an AEA regional theatre company, is searching for seasonal First Hands for our 11 show, 24th season.
- The Candidate is responsible for: Cutting fabric based on created patterns and assembling costume pieces by either hand or machine for each production; Assisting with creating, modifying and duplicating patterns for facings and lining during the creation of costume pieces for each production; Assisting Costume Designer and/or Shop Manager in measurements and fittings and taking notes; Adjusting alterations noted during fittings; Creating and modifying costume craft projects based from designer plates; Maintaining and striking costume pieces under the guidance of the Shop Manager; Maintaining a clean, safe and well-organized work area and shop.
- Requirements: Minimum BA in Technical Theatre or equivalent experience. 3+ years experience in theater costume creation at a regional theater; Strong knowledge of sewing techniques (hand and machine); Strong knowledge of shop equipment and tools; Knowledge of pattern drafting; Knowledge of fabric types and their uses for stage; Knowledge of costume and fashion history; Knowledge of a variety of materials, including, but not limited to, clay, buckram, felt, thermoplastics, foams, adhesive and metal work a plus; Knowledge of mold making and sculpting techniques a plus; Excellent organization, problem-solving, and communicative skills.

Stitcher
- Orlando Shakespeare Theater, an AEA regional theatre company, is searching for seasonal Stitchers for our 11 show, 24th season.
- The candidate is responsible for: Sewing assigned costumes by hand or machine. A Stitcher will have extensive knowledge of garment construction, alteration, and repair. They will be able to work directly under the Costume Shop Supervisor to construct original costume items, alter and fit existing garments, and repair/maintain pieces as needed. Special costume crafts skills are preferred.
Requirements: Minimum BA in Technical Theatre or equivalent experience. 1+ years experience in theater costume creation at a regional theater; Strong knowledge of sewing techniques (hand and machine); Strong knowledge of shop equipment and tools; Knowledge of fabric types and their uses for stage; Knowledge of costume and fashion history; Knowledge of a variety of materials, including, but not limited to, clay, buckram, felt, thermoplastics, foams, adhesive and metal work a plus; Knowledge of mold making and sculpting techniques a plus; Excellent organization, problem-solving, and communicative skills.

Wardrobe Personnel
- Orlando Shakespeare Theater, an AEA regional theatre company, is searching for seasonal Wardrobe Personnel for our 11 show, 24th season.
- Wardrobe Personnel are responsible for the care and maintenance of finished costumes as used in the production and provides hands on assistance with costumes to actors in the dressing rooms and backstage.
Additionally, candidate is responsible for: Creating costume change/dresser plot, Supervise preparation of dressing cards, lists, and costume check items, Oversee costume maintenance including laundry and repair, Oversee Load-In and Strike in regards to show costume, Ensure maintenance of original look of costumes. Review of costumes prior to each performance, Assist actors with dressing and quick changes, Perform pre-show setup and post-show clean up, Perform emergency costume repairs as necessary, Attend fittings and rehearsals as needed, Ensure proper placement of costume pieces prior to show.

Scenic Charge Artist
- Orlando Shakespeare Theater, an AEA regional theatre company, is searching for seasonal Scenic Charge Artist for our 11 show, 24th season.
- The ideal candidate will have a degree in art, graphic design, scenic/production design, and 3+ years of experience working in a professional and/or collegiate paint shop, with knowledge of basic paint treatment, color mixing techniques and a proficiency in a wide variety of techniques and styles necessary in the work of a company with a season that includes TYA, contemporary theater, new works and Shakespeare.
- Duties include layout, texture, base, and finish painting, as well as all required touch ups and maintenance. Charge should be able to work quickly, independently, and supervise a small work crew of varying levels of experience.

2012 - 2013 PRODUCTION APPRENTICES
Orlando Shakespeare Theater has opened its search for seasonal Production Apprentices. The apprentice will work directly with Orlando Shakes Staff and other visiting artists and assist in all aspects of production. The qualified candidate will have excellent organizational, problem-solving and communication skills; be a self-starter and work well in a collaborative environment.
The position includes a weekly stipend. You must have own vehicle.
Positions are available Mid August and runs through Early May.
THESE ARE FULL TIME, 9 MONTH POSITIONS – You must be available for the entire season.
We are seeking Apprentices in the following areas:
Costume Apprentice
• Build, maintain, repair, and strike all costumes, wigs and accessories for any production that you are assigned.
• Handle the wardrobe duties for any production that you are assigned.
• Attend all technical rehearsals, rehearsals, calls and/or meetings as required.
Electrics Apprentice
• Assist with the installation, hang, focus, maintenance, and strike of lighting and sound equipment for all productions.
• Work as a Sound Operator or Light Board Operator for any production that you are assigned.
• Attend all technical rehearsals, rehearsals, calls and/or meetings as required.
Scenic Apprentice
• Assist with the building or buying of scenery and properties for all productions.
• Assist with scenic painting of set and prop pieces for all productions.
• Work as backstage crew for any production that you are assigned.
• Attend all technical rehearsals, rehearsals, calls and/or meetings as required.
Stage Management Apprentice
• Pre Production, Setup and assisting with the running of rehearsals for any production that you are assigned.
• Working either backstage or as an operator for performances for any production that you are assigned.
• Maintaining stage management paperwork and rehearsal items as necessary.
• Attend all technical rehearsals, rehearsals, calls and/or meetings as required.
