The Young Company (TYC) is a diverse group of high school students from around Central Florida who get hands-on voice, movement and character training while working on a fully produced (i.e. professional costumes, lights, set & sound designs) play. TYC strives to provide talented young artists a nurturing environment where positive self-expression is encouraged through active involvement in the exploration of classical drama.
The production is led by Anne Hering renown for her portrayals of the Porter and Lady MacDuff in MACBETH and Goneril in KING LEAR on the OST stage.
The Young Company is sponsored in part by The English Speaking Union.
| ABOUT THE YOUNG COMPANY |
 |
TYC
provides talented high school students of culturally diverse
backgrounds with a nurturing environment which encourages positive
self-expression through their active participation in the exploration
of Shakespeare and related drama.
TYC is open to students entering 9th
grade through graduating seniors interested in learning more about
theatre, Shakespeare, and self-expression through the arts. Students
from diverse communities selected by audition meet for 4 weeks during
summer to rehearse and perform a Shakespeare play under the direction
of professional Orlando Shakespeare Theater artists. |
| TYC HISTORY |
In 1991, The Young Company was conceived by Dr. Stuart Omans and Judith Rubinger as the primary educational branch of the Orlando Shakespeare Theater in partnership with UCF.
In 1997,
Richard Width took over the direction of the program and re-structured
it into its present format. Now, The Young Company is but one part of
the Orlando Shakespeare Theater's answer to our community's growing
need for alternative educational programs providing support and
challenge in the academic arena.
Servicing local high school youth of economically diverse communities
who are predisposed toward the performing arts, The Young Company's
staff of professional artists use theater to facilitate the emotional, social, and academic growth of young people.
